Foreword

It is enough to go down to the caves and carefully examine the unique drawings carved on the vaults of the caves. The breathtaking effect of how ancient these paintings are, but their plots are still understandable to modern man - wild animals, pursuit, and sharing of prey.

Cave paintings of Gobustan belong to the Upper Paleolithic period. According to experts, they are several tens of thousands of years old!

 

Imagine how much time has passed since the ancient artists imprinted their simple life on the vaults of caves. People tamed fire and wild animals, learned how to agriculture, mastered the smelting of metal, built and destroyed cities, and developed new lands and fought...

In the modern interactive museum, you will also examine the parking lot of primitive people and are acquainted with their way of life, find out what they ate, who they hunted for, and what plants and animals surrounded them.

While walking and exploring the caves, you will hear about other sensational discoveries made by the Norwegian explorer T. Heyerdahl here and learn the secret of the Latin inscription, which was applied to one of the rocks of Gobustan in the first century AD.

Geological wonder: mud volcanoes

The next point of the tour is mud volcanoes. Gobustan is called the country of mud volcanoes, because there are more of them than anywhere else.

By the way, there are more than half of the world's mud volcanoes in Azerbaijan!

During the tour, you will be able to fully examine this miracle of nature, find out how it is formed, and what types of volcanoes exist in nature (in Gobustan there is almost everything!). On the way back to Baku, there will be a small stop at the Bibi Heybat sanctuary, where the remains of one of the descendants of the prophet Muhammad rest. Museum of Stone Annals and Well Heroes on Baku Boulevard

The walk will be interesting. We will go to the museum of stone annals, where exhibits from the times of 2–3 millennia BC are stored. You will see stone tools used by ancient people, tombstones with inscriptions and other unique artifacts. Be sure to see the monument, which is installed on the site of the very first oil well. You will be surprised when you see that the mechanism extracted oil is made of wood!

You will have the opportunity to touch the history of the Second World War, because some hero-oil wells provided the valiant Soviet Army with all the fuel from the 30s of the last century.
